69 Ford FE 390 Edelbrock RPM Summit 600 AFR after jetting upgrades vs 600 Holly
1969 Ford Truck 390 FE engine stock crank stock Truck heads Mild mods .
Patriot Headers, comp 265/275 cam
Summit 600 cfm carb , Pertronix 3 module
High voltage coil Gear vendors overdrive
True dual Exaust 2.5" .
In this Video I want to show a few things the first is a Eddy RPM is overkill for this engine it's made for a built 390 stroker crank c j heads or modded heads . I listened to the wrong people and swapped from a 2 bbl to 4bbl and picked this RPM intake .
The 2nd is the Summit carb is advertised as a 600 but the bore size is close to a 650 Holly at 166 The Holly 600 is only 155 bore size .
I made it work although I had to do some mods to keep it dialed in 71 main jet 80 rear jet 7.5 power valve and Drilled the squirter to 37 switching to the orange pump cam it came with green .
The Holly 600 to do the same AFR was 65 main jet 75 rear jet 31 squirter this tells me the summit 600 is actually a 650 in disguise.

Had one. I switched to the z gate. I use N and D a lot off-road. Easy to do
@Chudsaves Awesome 👌 I originally bought the Mr. Gasket stick job but then I thought 🤔 It was indent from park to 1st I wanted lock out just in case. This one seemed the easiest to install and replace if I needed to So far no issues. Band M makes good stuff glad your happy with the gated one .
Nice 69 I have a 68 with the 360.. it's rough from sending up 20 years got it from my gpa. Started to restore it
@heavychevy2289 Nice 👌 my linkage was all goofed up something in the shift tube broke everything was all worn out anyway . I figured have some performance and not need to take out the column cables are easy to replace .
It won't fit with 4WD. I remember Dodge changed something on the tail of the 727 trans for an overdrive. I also wonder about a lock-up torque converter with a switch. My c-6 with my 460 runs 2500 rpm at 60 mph. 3.54 gears?
@ronwest7930 mine are 3:73 the final drive is 2:91 with GV activated . When I rebuild the rear whenever that is I might go to 3:55
The Summit 600 is advertised as a 600 because the large annular boosters create a restriction even though the bore diameter is larger. It's kind of apples to oranges comparison between the Holley and Summit for jet size as the air bleed sizes are quite different and the integrated emulsion tube/booster combo setup changes things a bit as well. I'm at a 66 jet which is up 4 from stock, stock 68 secondary and a 10.5 power valve on my 390 with the 500 CFM summit. I ran my 600 Summit on my 390 when I first got it going and it ran fine at stock jetting although it did need the idle feed restrictors opened up a tad.
I forgot about the bigger booster Apect. I can see how big they are in the bores there huge . The RPM intake has big runners and I noticed it would go leaner in mid range or tip in they call it so I have to put a bigger squirter to accommodate that area . I take the easy route with AFR gauge never been a good plug reader .
@@TheThirdWheel618 I had to put a bigger squirter in both of mine as well.
any tips on electrical issues? my 69 f250 cluster doesnt work and also brake lights dont work
@RF250FONSECA I would first check that exposed fuse block .I had to get a dremnel tool and lightly scrub off the corrosion that builds up on the contacts my brake lights stop working and all fuses were good it was just the contacts that were rusty apply a light coat of di electric Grease on the fuse ends . Grounds are also a issue if you see grounds around the engine bay screwed in with sheet metal screws maybe unscrew and see what underneath . My rear tail light sockets were rusted up as well had to spray electrical contact cleaner to free them up then a little WD to keep them free .
Test light every thing before and after helps alot too

What kind of stupid invention is that?
@pierrececile9611 it's a optional safety feature I guess 🤷 pretty useless unless someone is inside the car but then all they need to do is like what we did in the old days Honey lock the doors after I get out .
Do you notice any sluggish acceleration when the doors would lock and unlock?
@@ChangedUpNowWhat no
Shouldn't ever see any engine issues with the mylink settings although low battery will cause locking and unlocking randomly as well as settings in the my link . Key fob is usually a press on the button to lock and then they suddenly unlock immediately and vs versa .
@@TheThirdWheel618 ok thanks. And I appreciate you for coming back to answer. I know you did this vid a while ago and gave detailed answers to a slew of ppl so thx.
I just called DJM and they’re very quick to state that their kits don’t work on F250s, I need to measure my kingpin and watch your stuff because I’m jonesin’ to lower this truck and you’ve proved that it’s possible!
@shaolinwat No they told me the same thing then I e mailed the tech guy on there website and asked for the measurements. They measure from the center of the coil spring bolt to the center of the end bushing it matched my 250 Beams with 7/8 king pin .
One guy on here just swapped out his big king pin 250 spindles for the smaller king pin 68-70 but also had to buy the pitman arm drag link tie rod ends for a 68-70 as well . If your tie Rods mount bottom up the castle nut is on top 👌 if they mount top down the nut is on the bottom good chance is the heavy duty 8 500 gvw front end . There are a lot of options tho 1974 up F100 used the same single piston disc brake Spindle as the light duty F250 74 up with single piston caliper only different is the 100.used 5 lug 250 had 8 lug rotor . DJM is a great 👍 set up although I moved on to John Rods 4.5" f100 Drop Beams I waited for a year for them although .
This is good stuff, but was really hoping you could help me get INTO my Sonic AFTER it has just locked me out.
@@agstros only one that can do that is road side assistance or triple AAA. If it keeps doing it carry a spare key fob hidden somewhere a Chevy Sonic is the least wanted car to steal in America I don't think it will be a issue .

It's not going to say F-250 It'll say F100 and F-150 so if you don't want to C notches or the u-bolts or the bottom plates or any of that you can call or text that company and ask him for just the brackets they did fit my Dana 60 axle. The reason why I didn't use the u-bolt to the bottom plates is because the F-250 was a lot heavier duty then the ones that are supplied in that kit. The u-bolts are smaller for an F100 I replace my u-bolts with a kit from Amazon the brand was super lift I'll get you the details soon.

what disc brake rotors did you use i got a 1969 ford f250 ranger camper special aswell and its got dayton discbrakes up front im not sure what rotrs will fit if you can help I would appreciate it
@@RF250FONSECA You have the early style dual Piston Rotors 1969-1975 Best thing is to do a part search using your specific year 1969. If that don't come up use 1970 -1972 for part searches and forum searches . I like to use parts Geek for the reason they give more info in there section "see fitment notes " and you can see all.the different brands available then write down part #"s and go somewhere else cheaper or buy from them either way the rotors I used were off a 77 and there different there backing plates specific so just stick to year range 69-72 and you be fine on anything brakes on that truck .
@@TheThirdWheel618 thanks
So that backing plate will bolt to my 65 camper special?
@@Junkyard_cowboy3 it should bolt right up although in the video look at the spindles and compare to yours if they look similar I can get a bolt pattern measurement . I listed it as 68 due to the fact that when I looked up parts brake rotors pads bearings it shows 68 and up so there could be some difference there .
@@TheThirdWheel618 my spindle looks just like that non HD one you had in the video
@@Junkyard_cowboy3 you could keep an eye out at the junkyard and see if you can find a 69 to 72 or a 72-79 that has the Dual piston disc brakes on it and just buy the backing plates and go from there if anything get a warranty on the parts so if they actually don't fit they let you bring them back and you can get credit from the junkyard for something else. There's two different styles like I showed in the videos the earlier style uses a sliding pin and the backing plates are different than the later style I made like five or six videos so like ragu spaghetti sauce it's all in there. 😉
Thanks for watching the videos I hope it helps You decide on which disc brakes you want to choose whether they be the Dual piston or the single piston . I think I made like seven videos in all the last one I installed all new brake lines using copper nickel brake tubing from Amazon .
The locks locking on their own was driving me nuts! Thanks a million, dude
I have the older style controller and it is terrible at about 55 or 60 and goes on and off. With my 4:10 gears that's quite a slam. I hooked a hot toggle to the solenoid and just turn it on over 35 or so if I'm going to be going over 55.
Mine did that as well but it was my speedo cable binding up I could see it on the speedo indicator wiggling or going up and down . If it works with the toggle switch for you problem solved . They told me at gear vendors that the reason they use the speed sensor on the speedo cable is not just for the auto mode but so that the gear vendor is always auto off by the controller at low speeds like 15 mph or at a complete stop or the pressure built up inside will cause premature wear they dont want the gear vendors on at a complete stop so the speed sensor cancels it out automatically in any mode auto or manual I drive 99 percent in manual mode .
1st Useful info I've found.
Thanks I was going to do more like this ...
Thanks for watching: Correction I did not get the Booster Rod adjustment procedure from you tube . I seen a written article online that said to loosen the end nut on the brake booster Rod until the master cyl will not sit flush at the base mount , then tighten the nut of the booster Rod until the master cyl sits flush at the Booster without resistance then tighten another 16th of a inch for Freeplay the idea is to have no constant pressure from the booster on the master cyl application and adjustment will vary per vehicle but it worked for me .
Correction the copper nickel u shaped line connection that goes to the stainless line in the confined space under the truck goes to the right wheel . I went direct to the drivers wheel from the valve no adapters.
In the process of doing the swap just how you did it ! Do you happen to have front dust seal part number or what did you use ? Thanks for all this great info !
The 76 to 79 rotor uses a different dust seal since the inner bearing is bigger . So just use the same part number dust seal for your drum brakes.
Or Order a new one for your drum brakes and it will fit .
@@TheThirdWheel618 found that out the next day haha didn’t know the OD of the seals were gonna be the same between drums and disc . But shoulda thought harder bout that. Thank you
Thanks very nice and simple
Is it possible to show more information on this tool to keep light off
I need the tool to get my light off 😂
Unfortunately if has already gone off you need to take the valve off there's no way to stick that tool in and correct it . The task will be removing the valve taking the light switch out inside you will see a plunger of brass deal inside it moves left and right inside the valve although with the correct pressure front and back it should not move . When you bleed the brakes you don't have equal pressure so without that tool holding the valve in place were the light switch goes it's going to go off you replace the switch after brake bleed and it's all set . You might be able to do it with compressed air but it would be tricky getting it in the right place there's a end on the valve that unscrews and you can move it I did it once and changed to o rings inside .
I bought my kit from horse power sales although a search for F250 Blake bleed tool it might come up some are plastic the good ones and metal .

Will 295/50 fit on 16.5x12?
No way a tire shop won't even mount a 16" tire on a 16.5" rim the beads are totally different.
Do your tires rub when you turn or did you roll them mine are rubbing
Yeah they rubbed with the drop spring 1" then I rotated or spun the spring out of the pocket up top and it raised it around 1/4" to 3/8 and it stopped . My tires in front were around 245 /70/ wide with drums I could had used a flap disc and shaved around 1/8" or so down. Inside the lip I did that in the rear with 255"s .
I switched to the dual piston disc up front and they stick out more so I went 16x6 up front with a 215/85/16 lots of space no rubbing lock to lock a little taller 1/4" tire 30.4" looks good

Amazing truck! I have a 70 F250 camper special that I’m getting ready to do the same as you and my truck looks almost identical excluding color. All the way down to the wheels and tires. Do you have exactly what I have so your video is by far the most informational I have come across, so thank you x100!! Quick question, do you have the flex O-Matic rear leaf shackle? And if so, have you had any issues with the flip kit using this shackle? Also, if you were to take your best, guess how many degrees your camber is sitting at right now what would you say? I am lucky enough to have a friend who builds I-beams for prerunners so he will be doing my beam modifications for me, which gives me the pleasure of, adding a few more degrees of camber while he’s doing it.. Thank you again
Thank you appreciate your comment yes I have the flex o matic no issue with the flip 🙃 only the shock mounts on the axle will be off after the flip. They need to be moved over to the inside you can leave it but better to re weld them a little over to the in side .you will see it after the flip . My advice on the beams the factory beams have around 1.5 to 2.0 degrees of positive camber made into them the DJM beams do not so if you want to go lower than the 3" with DJM 2" drop spring you will need about. 2 degrees of positive camber added into the beam . I added a 1" drop spring and I had 1 degrees on the passenger and 1.5 degrees drivers side negative camber so to make it easy add around 1 degree of positive camber for every inch lower you intend to go .
Also .. if your planning on using the firebird Industrial flip bracket it's a good idea to have that welded to the axle once you get your pinion angles set if not on a hard pull the axle can rotate since it's not fixed in the bracket
We put one of those in my dads 64 galaxie with the 445 stroker, rollerized C6 with 2500 stall converter, 3.91 rear gears. Makes a big difference on the highway. Haven't driven that car much at all but it sure cuts the noise way down at the bare minimum and it's worth it just for that alone. I need to figure out why it won't automatically go into overdrive, but it works fine manually with the push button switch we installed in the floor. One thing about driving that 445 down the highway with the 294S comp cam, it doesn't sound like its racing at all at 3000 RPM, but at 2400 it sounds the same. My 390 with 3.70 gears and slightly smaller tires turns the same RPM as the 3.91's do due to the tire size difference and it sounds a little bit strained with the smaller cam but will do 70-75 just fine but that's about all the more I'd want to push it for a cruising speed. OD would be nice on that one since I drive that car a lot more, but I don't drive it on the highway enough for it to be an issue.
The older gear vendors had a rocker box selector switch and the dimmer switch on the floor the rockerbox which said man & auto . The gear vendor that I have is only 2 years old and they replaced the electronics with the MSD controller there's no rocker panel switch it's now a toggle switch and the dimmer switch on the floor. When you set your toggle switch to Auto it will automatically shift into overdrive around 47 mph although if you have stepped on the dimmer switch on the floor that actually cancels out the auto mode even though if you have the toggle switch in auto mode . The dimmer switch on the floor is the main one that controls everything even if you were in auto mode if you step on the dimmer on the floor it will turn off the gear vendor and that's what you can use for either passing to kick down into third gear and then you would press the dimmer again in the gear vendor would turn back on again. There's also a speed controller connected to a short speedometer cable that's what connects to the speedometer cable on the car or truck that's what makes it shift into auto mode. That's what the toggle switch is connected to . so it says in the instructions that if you choose not to install the toggle switch and you only use the dimmer switch on the floor and you will not have the auto drive feature.
They use that dimmer switch on the floor of the main one for the reason of gear splitting through the gears you can do first low first overdrive, second direct, second overdrive, third direct, 3rd overdrive they say you have a six-speed. Although I have not mastered the technique of the gear splitting and only use it for the overdrive on the freeway I have accidentally came across where I've actually pressed on the dimmer switch shifting into second manually and the truck took off like a rocket and I ended up hitting the dimmer again and I shifted into third and I was like oh wow that's how that works.
@@TheThirdWheel618 Yeh I have the MSD controller and the toggle switch, speed sensor and everything hooked up. The red and green lights work but when in auto mode it has never engaged by itself going down the highway. Not sure if I have a bad connection to the speed sensor or what but it works fine manually.
@@MattsRageFitGarage yeah mine did that too and then I reversed the wires on the speed sensor and then it started working. Although in their instructions it says that there's no polarity and it can go either way I just reverse the connection.
@@TheThirdWheel618 Yeah that was my suspicion I will switch the wires around. I'm glad you said that because I was wondering about it.
I must add to this that 1976-1979 the spindles thickness is different at the inner bearing and uses timkin set # 47 the 1968-1975 uses set # 45 so if you choose to use a 1976- 1979 backing plate and brakes you will need to change the inner bearing on the new rotors to fit see part 3 of this video series .
I checked your page hoping you had a video on your build 😜.. I did the John Rods beams it was a 5 to 5.25 " front and I added a 1" block to the rear came out 7" rear . I say 5" to 5.25" front since my new tires are 1/4 taller so I lost the 1/4" . 215/85/16 tall and skinny and 245/75/16 rear . I'm still doing brakes and minor stuff needs a new gas tank and bunch of other small stuff
I did aluminum radiator on mine as well but I just got one of the kits off ebay... but it it fits perfectly and came with all the wires and the fans it was 205 bucks 🤷♂️hasn't over heated yet 🤞
Wagon wheels are bad ass .what are you smoking
Know you can have the best of both worlds 😜 VH.....
My sonic has a basic radio so how would I do that
I'm not familiar how to adjust any vehicle settings other than on the MyLink system.
@@TheThirdWheel618 okay thank you!
They're supposed to lock while you're inside with the key in. It protects you from carjackers.
When your inside not when you shut the key off and get out and shut the door key off in ignition and it locks you out in the middle of the night in the rain in the snow or on a trip somewhere . The main reason is the door open with key in it's supposed to chime but 99 percent of sonic owners key chime doesn't work that was a factory recall call the dealer to verify I went to dealer they updated MyLink chime still doesn't work . Another problem alot of people have low batteries in there key fob and it starts acting up.and locking the door just happened to me recently even tho I bypassed the door lock feature changed battery all good .
did you find out possibly they might actually be made in the usa? ive heard that moog has factories all over the world.
They could be there good springs I have em installed now . There listed at 6,200 GVW or less that's the F100/ F250 light duty only from 67-79 the 67-71 F250 camper special is 7,500 GVW its the same spring after as it wss consider light duty with the 7/8 king pin after 72 the F250 used That tall spring with the clamps on the outer bucket except the light duty version that is this spring Moog 8228 Had to clarify so no one spends $ on the wrong spring .
@@TheThirdWheel618 thankyou. for the moog springs im looking at on amazon say country of origin China but only in the description. i think they said that by mistake. cause all the boxes ive seen say made in USA. still going to avoid amazon because that would make the springs useless if they sag for me. i heard moog only makes some parts in China to compete with prices of other brands.
How about Interco Tires out of Louisiana?
Yeah 👍 16.5 " interco swampers I was searching not to long ago and found a few brands I never heard of in 16.5" but they were super pricey compared to a 16" 17" and so on. I'm moved on from them due to not having a safety bead on the wheel itself 😕 I went to a tire shop to swap wheels with my 16.5" and he unscrewed the valve and once the tire reached around 15 psi the tire just de beaded itself 😲 strange thing to see with a common 15" 16" 17" it will go completely flat and you need to break the bead of the tire off the wheel .
Did you make different brackets for mounting the sway bar to the beams
No that's actually a adco aftermarket sway bar it came with the L brackets only down side you need to drill a hole in the beams or weld it on . The factory ones are junk yard only or people asking crazy money for them the adco was only 150-179 ish .
@TheThirdWheel618 I that it was a ccp sway bar I put mine on today but had to make a bracket for drivers side . Passenger fit perfectly using the hole like you did. But the driver's side was about half an inch away. My problem could have forced it in but I just made a new bracket
@@PatinatruckGarage there's a lot of them out there mine was an Adco
Hi did you have any issue with pitman arm being to close to the steering thats in front of it mine is all most touching rubber boot You might build a slip a dollar in there😂
They do get close but never touched the previous owner installed the adjuster sleeve on the outside as well and the adjuster still went through the radius arm .
You swapped yours out to the 69 7/8 king pin style?.
@@TheThirdWheel618 the same ones you have for the dual piston calipers with 7/8 king pin
@TheThirdWheel618 I put adjusters on inside that's how ford diagram shows it
@TheThirdWheel618 I wish I could send you a picture not sure what to do
Hi did you have issues with pitman arm hitting the bar in front of it
Well done brother excellent information
Thank you so much! I have been locked out of my Chevy many times. I give your video a 10
Please be safe and manually lock your doors when parked sitting in the car now they will only lock automatically when key is on and in drive or reverse .
Well I found some springs from Chassi works
I think they make beams for big kingpin F250 as well I used the flip kit from chassis tech it fits the Dana 60 .
Mine does it randomly and its not a setting. Im pretty sure its a faulty door lock actuator. I sat at a valero the other day and watched my drivers door lock and unlock 4 times. But it started doing it when i replaced the fob. Serial numbers were diff but the dealer swore it would work. Any a ay that is why im not buying acuators. Still looking for the correct answer
Mine actually did the lock unlock thing when my key fob was washed in the machine . I bought a new one on Amazon and watched a you tube video to re program it could be low battery or faulty key fob .
@TheThirdWheel618 Amazon's where I got mine too. My original fell outta my pocket and I found it via the mower deck. Mower won. I've reprogrammed it and the 2nd original one a few times trying to sus it out. Maybe it is the fob.. sometimes the car starts beeping like the alarm is set only it beeps a hair faster. Anyway thanks for getting me back on the hunt.
@@NEVERSLOWDOWN-NEVERGROWOLD yes there programed to the car if it's bad it will act up .
Thanks for taking the time to show installation of the shifter and show casing the little unforseen glitches. So how does it function while driving and have you had to do any readjusting? Also is there a light on the shift indicator that allows you to see indicator marks for night time driving. Got to ask how that gear vendor overdrive is working out for you......
All is good on Everything 👍 it was a fun install on the B&M no adjusting needed so far checked the cable the other day at the transmission linkage still has the wiggle play it needs . It's pretty tough so you can man handle the shifts with no issues I am enjoying the heck out of the gear vendors it was like a new truck from day 1 I dropped around 500-650 Rpm on the Fwy that's huge for gas milage 3:73 rear axle gear vendor on is now 2:91 I like to drive far in it on the Fwy 70 mph at 2,300 rpm 65 is 2,100 RPM worth it for sure .
I know you said you shortened your driveline and did a one piece will I have cut my 2 piece down with the axle flip kit
I had to use a one piece because I added a Gear Vendor overdrive . The tail section was longer than the C6 and if I left the 2 piece the shorty drive line with carrier would only be 12-14" long . The one piece is 58 5/8 " long 3" tube better option . You should not need to cut your drive line only measure from ground to a fixed point on the axle or use a degree finder to put the axle pitch the same after the flip of not what could happen is your axle with be higher that your transmission. The drive line will be going down toward the transmission instead of up like it is factory. I put shims or spacers under my trans cross member and lifted my transmission/ engine up to compensate for this not saying you will need to but it's all inline now .
Also DJM does not provide flip kits with there beams they use the drop spring hanger and rear leaf shackle to achieve 4" in the rear and 3" in front with there beams if you use a flip it's 6" in the rear & will be slightly lower than the front . Easy way to compensate is 1" drop spring or 1/4 to no more than 1/2 cut off stock coil spring go 1 size smaller tire in front or combo of both .
You think. Car maker could put better transmissions in vehicles when there made for a wider gear selection and less rpm per speed on open road
Ford actually did make the truck perform it's best in 1969 the towing speed limit was 55 mph so they geared it low for that reason in order to not lug the engine with the 3spd the power band was 55 mph at 2,300 rpm . I can't drive 55 they will run me over 1980 they got the idea with the overdrive transmission .
